During the period in which the building was on the real estate market, leaders of the group met with property owners to negotiate an agreement of commitment. As an act of commitment, interested community volunteers met for a Cleanup Day to clear away trees and brush.

Leaders made presentations at public meetings and conducted newspaper interviews to promote “saving our school”.

Regular monthly meetings resulted in the formation of fundraising, membership, and publicity committees.

Articles of Incorporation were written and filed with the State of Florida. We were officially incorporated May 25, 1999.

Our initial focus was on solicitation of donations and annual fundraisers to attain funds so the land could be purchased.

On February 23, 2000, the six lots of land were purchased with funds from an anonymous donor. The property owner donated the building for restoration.

Fundraising activities continued to support the design and reconstruction of the schoolhouse.

On December 20, 2002, the State of Florida recognized the historical significance of our school building and officially listed it on The National Register of Historic Places.
